A shoplifting attempt at the Westfield Garden State Plaza turned violent when a man allegedly punched a loss prevention officer before fleeing, Paramus police said.
Officers responded to the store at approximately 2:40 p.m. Friday, July 31, for a reported robbery in progress, after a loss prevention officer told police he heard the store's electronic article surveillance system activate and investigated the alarm, Paramus Police Chief Robert Guidetti said. A new state law that took effect Saturday, Aug. 1, prohibits eateries from automatically providing single-use plastic utensils and condiment packets to customers. Instead, they'll only be provided upon request.
The change applies to restaurants, cafés, food trucks, cafeterias, grocery stores with prepared food, convenience stores, hospitals, schools, sports arenas, entertainment venues, and other businesses serving meals to eat.
